– Надо же, это и в самом деле мое кольцо, – воскликнул Вальмонт.

– Ну, не совсем мое, – поспешил поправиться он, – но оно принадлежит мне. Я думал, что потерял его.

– Видимо, вы все время носили его в кармане. Камень распорол шов, и кольцо запало за подкладку. Я его еле достала.

– Спасибо, Марибель. Я рад, что оно нашлось. Это кольцо мне очень дорого.

Вальмонт задумчиво покрутил кольцо в пальцах, потом сунул его в карман брюк.

Chapter 9

He found the baroness in the drawing room, paging through some music.

“I hope I’m not disturbing,” he said. “I was told I would find you here. We haven’t been formally introduced. I’m Chevalier Valmont.”

“How do you do, Chevalier. Of course you’re not disturbing. In fact, I couldn’t wait to meet my husband’s savior.”
