The Nine of Swords is defined by reaching the pinnacle of achievement in matters of will, action, or thought. A kind of perfection, for one's class or level.

That said, it must be clearly understood that the pinnacle in one class, is the lower bound of a higher class.

A "reversed" Nine of Swords is a kind of epic super-failure. Some misfortune or setback, taken to the max.

So, this guy is dating this girl, and she decides to introduce him to her dad, who just happens to be a retired police colonel.

And she warns him:

– My dad's very strict, ex-army, so watch yourself, okay?

– Okay, – he replies, but in his heart he's all smiles, – he's seen such dads before…

They arrive at the dad's house, say their hellos, take off their shoes.

And suddenly, into space, the dad hollers a command:

That's when the guy realized that he was in really serious trouble…

Swords are will, action, thought, information.

Accordingly, the Ten of Swords is transformation, metamorphosis, transition to a new state of will, action, or thought.

For example, this corresponds to a transition from a dormant, inactive state to an active one.

The defining feature of the Ten of Swords is a transition to a new state, change, transformation THROUGH volitional effort, action, with the help of thinking.

Getting a certain result, profit from your efforts and actions.

Frequently, to achieve this it's necessary to overcome certain difficulties, problems, competition, and the very fact of overcoming them is already the result.

A "reversed" Ten of Swords is an attempt, an effort, an action, a thought that doesn't lead to success.

For example, it may symbolize a fish that has fallen off the hook.
