Конечно, путешествовать по другим эпохам можно бесконечно, и каждая сторона жизни заслуживает отдельного описания. Однако нельзя объять необъятное, как утверждал Козьма Прутков. Я желаю тем, кто добрался до конца этой книги, решиться продолжить путь самостоятельно – туманные улицы викторианского Лондона скрывают еще много интересного. Если же вы намерены остановиться здесь, я тешу себя надеждой, что реальный мир Шерлока Холмса и доктора Уотсона уже не является для вас Terra Incognita и вы будете чувствовать себя значительно увереннее не только с персонажами сэра Артура Конан Дойла, но и на страницах всей английской литературы второй половины XIX века.
